Energy efficiency meeting held

Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan today attended the 60th Meeting of the Expert Group on Energy Efficiency & Conservation of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) held in Hong Kong.   In his welcome speech, Mr Tse said that Hong Kong was honoured to host the meeting again after 2019 and 2020 to provide a platform for direct dialogue among APEC partners.   “It is encouraging to see over 50 experts and delegates from 11 APEC member economies as well as four international organisations gather again to share insights and exchange experiences with their counterparts after the stabilisation of the epidemic.”   As the Asia-Pacific region develops, its energy demand and consumption would continue to increase, which may lead to an increase in emissions of greenhouse gases, he pointed out.   To achieve carbon neutrality before 2050, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government published Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 in 2021, outlining the st

Flower points of sale close midnight

The 15 points of sale for New Year flowers will cease operation at midnight, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department said today.   Members of the public buying New Year flowers must therefore leave by midnight.   Venue users should clear their sales paraphernalia as soon as possible after the end of operation hours. They should also remove the stall structures such as scaffolding and marquees, and arrange for vehicles to remove them from the venues by 7am tomorrow.   The department is strictly enforcing various anti-epidemic measures at all points of sale this year, and at the same time monitoring the admission to and exit from the points of sale and controlling footfall with the use of technology.   The measures aim to avoid the risk of mass gatherings and assist the public to enter the points of sale in an orderly manner.   The department said the footfall and waiting status of the 15 points of sale will continue to be displayed in a green, amber and red lights format on-site, on the department website and on the Transport Department's HKeMobility app.   A green light means there are few people inside the point of sale and that ticketing is not required, an amber light indicates an increase in footfall and that waiting is required, and a red light represents a large number of people awaiting admission and that a longer waiting time will be needed.   When the department activates a ticketing system, the public may get a ticket on-site or obtain an e-ticket through the mobile app that can be downloaded for free.   Visitors may enter the point of sale with a ticket within 60 minutes after the ticket number is called. Each ticket will cover no more than two people.   People are reminded to complete their transactions swiftly and leave the points of sale after buying flowers.   Visitors must undergo body temperature screening before entering the points of sale and those with symptoms will be refused entry.   They must also wear a mask when entering and within a point of sale. Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted.   The venue QR code for the LeaveHomeSafe mobile app is displayed at the entrances and inside all points of sale for the public to scan and record their visits.   Call 2868 0000 for enquiries.
