DoJ rejects malicious attacks

The Department of Justice (DoJ) today said it will not tolerate malicious attacks on its decision, which was made in accordance with the law.   In a statement setting out the general principles in handling prosecutions, the DoJ reminded the public to refrain from commenting on any case in which the legal proceedings are still ongoing.   The statement said in respect of an application for review of admission to bail lodged by the DoJ on March 4, it should be noted that the case in question involves application for bail under Article 42(2) of the National Security Law.   The Court of Final Appeal delivered a judgment on February 9 on how to apply the granting of bail to a person charged with an offence under the National Security Law.   According to the Criminal Procedure Ordinance, the Secretary for Justice may apply to a judge to review the decision of admission to bail by a magistrate. LCSD reports COVID-19 case

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department today said a worker who provides plant maintenance services in Sham Shui Po has tested positive for COVID-19.   The worker had been identified as a close contact of a confirmed case and was notified yesterday that she had tested positive for the virus.   She has no recent travel history and last worked on February 10. She wore surgical masks when performing her duties and her body temperature was normal when undergoing temperature screening at work.   Thorough cleaning and sterilisation at the work areas concerned and all related public facilities have been arranged.   Additionally, a technical officer of the Transport Department has tested preliminarily positive for the virus.   The officer works on 15/F, South Tower, West Kowloon Government Offices and the floor concerned is not open to the public.   He has no recent travel history and last performed duties this morning. He wore face masks when performing tasks and followed relevant disease prevention measures at work.   His workplace, including the common areas, will also be fully cleaned and sterilised.
