CE meets Philippine senate president

Chief Executive John Lee today met visiting Philippine Senate President Juan Miguel Fernandez Zubiri to exchange views on matters of common interest.   Mr Lee said Hong Kong and the Philippines have maintained close exchanges and co-operation in various fields such as trade, investment and finance, and that Hong Kong is an important trading and investment partner for the Philippines and other Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries. He encouraged more Philippine enterprises and talent to develop in Hong Kong and make better use of its professional services and internationalised business environment for expanding into Mainland markets, including those of the Greater Bay Area.   As the city is striving for early entry to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, the Chief Executive thanked the Philippines for its support in Hong Kong’s bid for accession. http://dlvr.it/SplQxC

Anti-virus operations held

Joint operations with several government departments were mounted this weekend at bar areas and places where foreign domestic helpers (FDHs) usually gather to carry out publicity work to combat COVD-19, the Government said today.   The operations were taken amid concerns over recent local COVID-19 cases involving mutant strains.   Apart from arranging contractors to strengthen cleaning services at FDH gathering spots, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department also stepped up patrols to combat unlicensed hawking activities at these locations.   During the operations, FDHs were reminded to comply with the regulations on mask-wearing and prohibition of group gatherings in public places.    The department also visited bar areas in Prince Edward, Soho and Wan Chai with Police to carry out publicity and educational work.   The two departments also conducted publicity work on the vaccine bubble to help bar operators adapt to the new measures.
