FS visits biomedical firm in UK

Financial Secretary Paul Chan yesterday visited a biopharmaceutical company and the Royal College of Art, and attended a lunch hosted by the China-Britain Business Council, as part of his ongoing trip to London.   Mr Chan visited AstraZeneca and met the company’s senior management to learn about its drug research and development activities, as well as its latest expansion plans.   AstraZeneca indicated that following in-depth talks with Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, it plans to develop a research and development centre in Hong Kong and will engage in further discussion with relevant government departments on the matter.   The Financial Secretary then attended a roundtable luncheon held by the China-Britain Business Council, and met representatives of British enterprises that do business, or plan to do business, either in the Mainland or Hong Kong.   Mr Chan later visited the Royal College of Art, which collaborated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic Unive

Applications for new niches to open

Applications for the new extendable public niches at Wo Hop Shek Columbarium in Fanling will be accepted from May 11 to June 10, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department announced today.        A total of 22,050 extendable niches, including 21,720 standard niches and 330 large niches at Block B, Wo Hop Shek Columbarium Phase VI will be open for application.        Applicants should only file one application form to apply for either a large or standard niche for the same deceased person.   Applicants have to fill in the particulars of at least three deceased people when applying for a large niche. For a standard niche, applicants must fill in at least one deceased person’s details.        Application forms can be downloaded from the department’s website or obtained from its Hong Kong or Kowloon Cemeteries & Crematoria Office, District Environmental Hygiene Offices, and the Home Affairs Department’s Home Affairs Enquiry Centres.   The completed application form together with copies of the required documents should be submitted within the application period by fax at 2333 1716, email, or in person to the Hong Kong or Kowloon Cemeteries & Crematoria Offices, or by post.   Applicants can also submit the application online.        Successful applicants will be notified by SMS, email or post of the serial number of the designated niche allocated.   Applicants can also check the results of their applications on the department’s website, the Hong Kong or Kowloon Cemeteries & Crematoria Offices, or the Public Niche Allocation Office.   Call 2841 9111 for enquiries.
