T•PARK marks 5th anniversary

The Environmental Protection Department today said online programmes will be held to celebrate T•PARK’s fifth anniversary.   T•PARK, Hong Kong’s first large-scale waste-to-energy facility, has received nearly 280,000 visitors since its opening in May 2016.   The department says online programmes will promote the contributions of waste-to-energy and encourage the public to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle by practising the habits of use less, waste less and upcycling.   Two online workshops will run on May 22 for pre-registered participants to experience the fun of recycling and turning waste into resources.   T•PARK has also invited five people from various sectors as ambassadors for its anniversary events. The ambassadors will share tips on practising a low-carbon lifestyle and encourage the public to adopt green habits.   Additionally, the T•FASHION Competition, a parent-child activity, encourages parents to cultivate their children’s awareness of reducing waste.   Visit T•PARK’s Facebook page for details.   T•PARK is an integrated sludge treatment facility which combines advanced technologies with an environmental education centre and a recreational complex.   Since its commissioning, the facility has generated more than 270 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and has reduced greenhouse gas emission by up to 760,000 tonnes. This realises the vision of waste reduction, resources circulation, zero landfill in the Waste Blueprint for Hong Kong 2035 and complements the city’s target for achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.   Visit T•PARK’s website to book a visit, or call 2910 9700 or email info@tpark.hk for enquiries.
