FS visits biomedical firm in UK

Financial Secretary Paul Chan yesterday visited a biopharmaceutical company and the Royal College of Art, and attended a lunch hosted by the China-Britain Business Council, as part of his ongoing trip to London.   Mr Chan visited AstraZeneca and met the company’s senior management to learn about its drug research and development activities, as well as its latest expansion plans.   AstraZeneca indicated that following in-depth talks with Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, it plans to develop a research and development centre in Hong Kong and will engage in further discussion with relevant government departments on the matter.   The Financial Secretary then attended a roundtable luncheon held by the China-Britain Business Council, and met representatives of British enterprises that do business, or plan to do business, either in the Mainland or Hong Kong.   Mr Chan later visited the Royal College of Art, which collaborated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic Unive

CE mourns Hilton Cheong-Leen

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hilton Cheong-Leen, a former Urban Council and Legislative Council member.   She noted that Mr Cheong-Leen had actively participated in public services for a long time.   Being a member of the Urban Council for over 30 years, he was the first Chinese person to become the council's Chairman. He was also a LegCo member and commanded the respect of different sectors.   Mr Cheong-Leen was also committed to community services, particularly on the development of local education.   He actively promoted the construction of schools and implementation of free education and served in the Hong Kong Council of Early Childhood Education & Services for many years, making significant contributions to society.   “I am saddened by the passing of Mr Cheong-Leen. On behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family,” the Chief Executive said.
