Flu jab booking set

Community vaccination centres (CVCs) in various districts will offer free seasonal influenza vaccination (SIV) to Hong Kong residents aged 50 or above when they are there for COVID-19 vaccination starting from October 6.   The Government announced today that eligible people can make reservations for receiving both COVID-19 vaccination and SIV through the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme booking system starting from 9am tomorrow.   They may also choose to receive the free SIV on site when they are receiving the COVID-19 jab starting from October 6.   Given that local seasonal influenza activity has been staying at low levels since February 2020, the overall immunity against influenza in the community is at present relatively low, the Government noted.   As the winter flu season is approaching, citizens are strongly urged to complete the recommended dosage of COVID-19 vaccines and the latest seasonal influenza vaccine as early as possible to obtain better protection in the event of

Children vaccination talks set

The Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Paediatric Society will co-organise two virtual lectures on May 5 and May 7 to invite paediatricians to provide expert advice to parents on the complications of COVID-19 infection and importance of COVID-19 vaccination in children.   The bureau noted that following the gradual and orderly resumption of face-to-face classes of all schools in Hong Kong, some parents may still have doubts about the complications of COVID-19 infection or the possible side effects of vaccination.   It then invited paediatricians to give virtual lectures and professional consultations to parents to allay their concerns.   The first lecture will be held from 7pm to 8.30pm on May 5 while the second one will be held from 11am to 12.30pm on May 7. They will be conducted in Cantonese and will be broadcast live by RTHK VNEWS.   To provide diversified and convenient means for students to receive vaccination, the bureau will organise at least seven Vaccination Day activities in various districts of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories.   A number of government schools will serve as vaccination centres this week to arrange vaccination for school staff, students and their family members in the districts through school outreach by COVID-19 Mobile Vaccination Stations or group booking to community vaccination centres (CVCs).   In addition, the bureau will jointly organise Vaccination Day activities in mid-May with a number of district school heads associations to facilitate students, parents and their family members to get vaccinated through the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS) School Outreach.   Schools can arrange group bookings to CVCs and designated Student Health Service Centres of the Department of Health for students to receive the Sinovac vaccine or to children community vaccination centres to receive the BioNTech vaccine.   Booking and transportation services for schools will be provided by the Government. Schools can also contact doctors on their own or through the bureau to match doctors under the VSS School Outreach to provide outreach Sinovac vaccination service for students.   Parents can also make their own bookings for their children directly through the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme website.
