FS visits biomedical firm in UK

Financial Secretary Paul Chan yesterday visited a biopharmaceutical company and the Royal College of Art, and attended a lunch hosted by the China-Britain Business Council, as part of his ongoing trip to London.   Mr Chan visited AstraZeneca and met the company’s senior management to learn about its drug research and development activities, as well as its latest expansion plans.   AstraZeneca indicated that following in-depth talks with Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, it plans to develop a research and development centre in Hong Kong and will engage in further discussion with relevant government departments on the matter.   The Financial Secretary then attended a roundtable luncheon held by the China-Britain Business Council, and met representatives of British enterprises that do business, or plan to do business, either in the Mainland or Hong Kong.   Mr Chan later visited the Royal College of Art, which collaborated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic Unive

Job fair to be held this week

The Labour Department will hold a large-scale job fair at MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok on March 8 and 9 to provide over 4,000 vacancies from various industries for job seekers.   Around 30 organisations will set up booths and conduct recruitment on the spot each day. More than 2,400 vacancies come from catering, retail and hotel industries.   The vacancies cover the positions of baker, accounting officer, instructor, technician, customer services officer, cook, assistant concierge, management trainee, assistant safety officer and security guard.   Around 81% of them are full-time jobs. Most vacancies offer monthly salaries ranging from $11,000 to $22,000.   Among the vacancies, about 97% require a Secondary 6 education level or below and about 58% are open to people without relevant work experience.   The job fair will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at MacPherson Stadium with free admission, during which job seekers can submit job applications and may be selected for on-the-spot interviews.   Click here for details.
