FS visits biomedical firm in UK

Financial Secretary Paul Chan yesterday visited a biopharmaceutical company and the Royal College of Art, and attended a lunch hosted by the China-Britain Business Council, as part of his ongoing trip to London.   Mr Chan visited AstraZeneca and met the company’s senior management to learn about its drug research and development activities, as well as its latest expansion plans.   AstraZeneca indicated that following in-depth talks with Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, it plans to develop a research and development centre in Hong Kong and will engage in further discussion with relevant government departments on the matter.   The Financial Secretary then attended a roundtable luncheon held by the China-Britain Business Council, and met representatives of British enterprises that do business, or plan to do business, either in the Mainland or Hong Kong.   Mr Chan later visited the Royal College of Art, which collaborated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic Unive

Education chief visits Guangzhou

Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin today attended the Strategy Consultation Conference on Building a Leading Country in Education (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area) co-organised by the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Government in Guangzhou.   The conference focused on the implementation pathway for building a leading country in education and meeting challenges arising from the technology revolution's new global wave.   Ms Choi said that she was pleased to exchange views with other participating leaders on major topics such as nurturing innovative talent and scientific research.   She pointed out that the Education Bureau would continue to devote resources to step up the promotion of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics) education, and along with the broad direction of invigorating the country through science and education, strengthen the cultivation of local innovation and technology talent.   Yesterday, Ms Choi met Hong Kong students joining a Mainland study tour on the subject of Citizenship & Social Development in Guangzhou.   She encouraged the students to cherish the learning opportunity to deepen their understanding of the country's latest situation and development, and enhance their knowledge and appreciation of Chinese culture and national achievements.   Ms Choi then visited the Guangzhou Experiential School of Labor & Technology for Secondary School Students to meet the school representatives and tour the facilities.   She learnt about the school's educational programmes in a number of areas including technology, life safety, the rule of law and the environment.   The education chief said that as an activity base in Guangzhou for students' comprehensive practice, the school provides experiential learning programmes that are suitable for secondary school students in Hong Kong.   On the same day, Ms Choi called on representatives of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province to exchange ideas on education issues of mutual concern.
