FS visits biomedical firm in UK

Financial Secretary Paul Chan yesterday visited a biopharmaceutical company and the Royal College of Art, and attended a lunch hosted by the China-Britain Business Council, as part of his ongoing trip to London.   Mr Chan visited AstraZeneca and met the company’s senior management to learn about its drug research and development activities, as well as its latest expansion plans.   AstraZeneca indicated that following in-depth talks with Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises, it plans to develop a research and development centre in Hong Kong and will engage in further discussion with relevant government departments on the matter.   The Financial Secretary then attended a roundtable luncheon held by the China-Britain Business Council, and met representatives of British enterprises that do business, or plan to do business, either in the Mainland or Hong Kong.   Mr Chan later visited the Royal College of Art, which collaborated with the Hong Kong Polytechnic Unive

Tse Chin-wan to visit GD, Zhejiang

The Government announced today that Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan will depart tomorrow for a five-day visit to three Greater Bay Area cities, namely Guangzhou, Foshan and Shenzhen, and Zhejiang Province.   Mr Tse, together with members of the Legislative Council Panel on Environmental Affairs, will tour the bay area cities from August 7 to 9. For their first meeting, in Guangzhou, they will meet representatives of the Guangdong Department of Ecology & Environment with a view to deepening exchanges and co-operation on environmental issues.   Additionally, they plan to conduct several tours with the goal of gaining an in-depth understanding of the latest development of new-energy transport, new-energy technology and waste incineration for electricity generation in the Mainland.   As such, they will call on the Yanling new energy eco-industrial park and Guangzhou public transport command centre of the Guangzhou Public Transport Group, the Nanhai Hydrogen Center and hydrogen fuel cell tram in Gaoming district in Foshan, and the exhibition hall at Huawei Digital Power AntoHill Headquarters, Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant, and Nanshan Energy Eco-Park in Shenzhen.   On Wednesday, Mr Tse will depart for Zhejiang Province where he will view a flexible high voltage direct current transmission project and an offshore electricity transmission research base to learn about the Mainland’s latest development in electricity technology.   The environment chief will return to Hong Kong on August 11. While he is away, Under Secretary for Environment & Ecology Diane Wong will be Acting Secretary.
